Arrival of Spring and Holi 2025


 The Season of colours is here again. Inspired by Mother Nature, we love to sing and dance this time of the year. We smear colours and celebrate the arrival of Spring 🌼🌱🌼. This is also Basant Utsav, or Spring festival when nature wears a newness with fresh leaves giving the trees a fuller look. The scent of Mother Earth 🌎 makes life more earthen and the attraction towards Nature increases despite all the urban temptations. The Holi colours as they are called Gulal or Abir are now purely herbal and natural to maintain the purity of the celebration 🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉

Dhananjay Chatterjee's Execution

Criminal Justice Dhananjay Chatterjee was a guard in a building where a teen-aged girl named Hetal Parekh was found dead in March 1990. He was convicted of having raped and killed her and was hanged on his 39th birthday, August 14, 2004, protesting his innocence until the end. His execution followed a shrill campaign waged by the wife of the then West Bengal chief minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharya. Chatterjee’s appeals were rejected by the then president APJ Abdul Kalam on the advice of arguably India’s worst home minister, Shivraj Patil, going by historian Ramachandra Guha’s estimation . In a similar situation, his predecessor in Rashtrapati Bhavan, KR Narayanan, had applied his mind wonderfully, as emerges from an anecdote narrated by his secretary, Gopalkrishna Gandhi. DOWNPOUR DISTRESS Wish I had a camera! I blurted out when I tiptoed from of my uncle's house. Wondering if it was a Kodak moment. No. It was water, water and only water that had engulfed my locality, Dum Dum Park. I had read a lot about Kolkata floods but, this time, I had a real encounter with a similar crisis. Sept 23 (the night before): It had started raining from 6 pm or so. Or rather it was pouring, literally. But, being in a posh media office it was impossible to fathom the severity within closed doors. My parents, by 8 pm, had already alerted that it was getting worse outside. I did not bother much.
